Julia is an Instructor at Practical Wing Chun and has been training for more than ten years. After a brief childhood attempt at karate — which ended with part of the house accidentally damaged — she returned to martial arts as an adult, choosing Wing Chun at her mum’s suggestion of a Southern Chinese style.

Training under Sifu Jack Leung, Julia is a Level 3 Instructor who has completed the Siu Lim Tao, Chum Kiu and Biu Jee forms and is currently learning the Wooden Dummy. Since joining the instructor training program in 2019, she has taught kids, teens and now primarily adults across both the Forest Lake school and Headquarters.

Her teaching focuses on building confidence through practical technique. Julia adapts her approach to each student’s level and often blends boxing-style punches with Wing Chun mechanics to reflect what people are more likely to encounter in real situations. She believes self-defence is important for everyone, not just women, and has broadened her experience with training in BJJ, Kosen Judo, Silat, Kali and Aikido.

Julia aims to create light-hearted, supportive classes where students feel encouraged, capable and part of a strong community.
