Kidsfit Instructors

Thomas Hamilton
Thomas is one of the instructors at PWC and plays a key role in planning and running the KidsFit program.

Having grown up in Sydney before moving to Brisbane around eight years ago, Thomas remembers finding the transition to a new environment challenging, particularly as a quiet young student. After just a month in Brisbane, he began training at PWC. The discipline, guidance and training provided by his Sifu and instructors helped him build confidence, find himself and develop a strong sense of belonging—something he remains grateful for to this day.

Now, as an Kidsfit instructor, Thomas hopes to provide students and children in similar situations with the same support, encouragement and positive environment that helped him grow. After graduating high school and beginning university, he continues to work closely with students, teaching self-defence while helping them build confidence, discipline and, most importantly, have fun through training.
Thomas joined the PWC leadership team during his early high school years, helping run classes and support the KidsFit program.
Today, he is focused on guiding the next generation of KidsFit students, leaders and instructors.
After completing the final empty-hand form, Biu Jee, Thomas has continued to develop his martial arts both within and outside of PWC. Through consistent practice and working alongside instructors and fellow students, he continues to refine his own technique and deepen his understanding of the art.

Jay Ton
Jay joined the Practical Wing Chun community at the age of 5. He has dedicated the last 10 years developing his skills and has progressed his journey to become apart of the Kidsfit Wing Chun instructor team. This is where he discovered his passion for teaching and his love for helping children learn and grow.
His greatest strengths as an instructor include of his playful and energetic teaching style where he creates a positive and engaging environment that keeps students motivated. During this time, he also encourages them to work hard, build confidence and believing that learning is most affective when students are having fun and feeling supported.
In contrast to his strengths, challenges he continues to face is developing his strength and improving his ability to handle opponents who are bigger and stronger. These challenges are opportunities to help him grow both as a martial artist and a teacher.
His goal moving forth is to become an even better instructor and passing down his teaching styles to the kidsfit leaders. He wants each of his students to enjoy coming to classes and gain practical skills to build confidence and protecting themselves in real-life situations.

Xavier Kilner
Xavier has been part of the Practical Wing Chun community since 2016, beginning his journey at the age of five. Since then, he has continued to develop his understanding of Practical Wing Chun, through development of skills and knowledge. In December 2023, he joined the leadership program, where he began developing the knowledge and confidence needed to become a respected instructor that can support younger students.

Xavier enjoys learning new techniques and challenging himself with new skills. Through Practical Wing Chun, he has had the opportunity to meet new people, gain new experiences and develop a greater understanding of those around him. His experience in the leadership program has strengthened his confidence and communication skills, particularly when speaking clearly to groups and leading drills.
He particularly enjoys teaching the Kidsfit classes and helping younger students develop both their martial arts skills and their confidence. He aims to create a positive, energetic and supportive environment where students feel comfortable participating, asking questions and improving at their own pace.

One of Xavier’s strengths as an instructor is his ability to communicate directly and recognise when students may need assistance. He is particularly confident in keeping younger students attentive while creating a positive and welcoming environment where they feel comfortable learning. He also recognises areas for improvement, particularly time management and self-control, and sees these as opportunities to continue developing both as a martial artist and as an educator.

Outside of Kung Fu, Xavier enjoys basketball and socialising, which allow him to build friendships and strengthen his connections with others. These experiences complement his development as an instructor by helping him improve his communication, teamwork and ability to connect with students.
Moving forward, Xavier’s goal is to continue improving his Practical Wing Chun skills and become an even stronger instructor. He aims to create an environment where students not only learn practical skills, but also feel supported, connected and motivated to grow together.

Zachary Chan
Zachary began his Kung Fu journey at the age of six in 2017. Since then, he has continued to train and develop his skills, knowledge, and understanding of Practical Wing Chun.
In 2024, he joined the Leadership Team, where he began taking on more responsibility and helping to teach and support younger students. He enjoys working with younger students and helping them develop their skills and confidence. Having started Kung Fu himself at a young age, he understands that learning new techniques can sometimes be challenging and believes that encouragement and patience are important parts of teaching. He enjoys helping students break down techniques, practise their movements, and build confidence as they progress. He hopes that the students he teaches can gain many of the same benefits that Kung Fu has given him over the years, including discipline, confidence, perseverance, respect, and the ability to work through challenges. He wants to create an environment where students enjoy coming to training while developing skills and qualities that they can carry into other areas of their lives.
Outside of Kung Fu, he enjoys going to the gym, gymnastics, and coding. He enjoys setting goals, learning new skills, and challenging himself to improve. He looks forward to continuing his own development while helping the students around him grow and enjoy their Kung Fu journey

Ellajade Ta
Ellajade began her journey with Practical Wing Chun in 2015 at the age of four. Since then, she has consistently trained and deepened her knowledge of the martial art. In 2024, she joined the leadership team as a volunteer instructor, discovering a true passion for teaching and fostering growth in young minds.
As an instructor, Ellajade has developed key strengths in dedication, resilience, and dynamic teaching methods that keep lessons both fun and educational.
While she continues to work on her physical strength against larger opponents and mastering specific technique names, Ellajade views these challenges as valuable opportunities to grow as both a practitioner and an educator.
Looking ahead, her goal is to help the students she teaches by creating a safe, supportive environment where every child feels heard. Ultimately, she aims to equip young practitioners with the confidence and skills needed to protect themselves in real-world situations.

Lisheng Zheng
Lisheng Zhen began his martial arts journey in kindergarten in Malaysia, where he started training in Taekwondo. Even after moving to Australia, he continued his training and enjoyed developing his kicking techniques, flexibility, and agility.
Over time, however, Lisheng’s interest in Taekwondo began to decline. While he was grateful for the many benefits it provided, he found himself looking for a martial art that placed greater emphasis on practical self-defence, as well as understanding the reasoning, principles, and applications behind each movement and technique.

In 2016, Lisheng’s mother discovered Wan Kam Leung Practical Wing Chun (PWC) online. As a lifelong fan of martial arts films, including the Ip Man movies, Lisheng was immediately curious and decided to join the school. What began as curiosity soon became a significant part of his life, and he has never looked back.

Through PWC, Lisheng’s understanding of martial arts and self-defence has expanded tremendously. He particularly values the system’s emphasis on understanding the logic, purpose, and flow behind its movements, while also developing practical applications for a wide range of self-defence situations. He appreciates that PWC continues to evolve and improve over time, while maintaining a strong focus on practical effectiveness.

Beyond martial arts techniques, Lisheng believes that PWC has helped him develop important qualities such as discipline, persistence, and humility. He considers himself a passionate and determined individual who strives to give his best to whatever he pursues, both inside and outside of training.
Recognising that personal growth also means addressing weaknesses, Lisheng joined the PWC Leadership Program to improve areas such as time management and interpersonal skills. More importantly, he hopes to use the experience to support and help others achieve their own goals, while continuing to grow into someone he can be proud of.
Outside of martial arts training, Lisheng enjoys badminton and learning. His interests range from academic and self-improvement studies to exploring different martial arts around the world. Interestingly, PWC has also inspired a particular passion for researching real-life self-defence scenarios and challenging himself to consider how he would respond to different situations.
Lisheng’s current goal is to master Practical Wing Chun and develop the ability to protect himself, his friends, and his family. Ultimately, however, his journey in martial arts is about more than self-defence—it is about continuous improvement, developing his character, and becoming a better person.
Junior Leaders

Zongkai Yau
Zongkai started training Kung Fu at the Underwood branch when he was five years old and has enjoyed every year of his journey.
Since beginning his training, he has learned many
valuable skills, including how to escape from headlocks, chokes and various grabs.

One of his main strengths is being able to speak confidently in front of students and fellow peers. He also has a talent for thinking quickly and creating drills that are well suited to the students he is teaching, helping them improve their skills and understanding.

As he begins his journey to become an instructor, one area he would like to improve is knowing when to talk with his peers and students during training. He plans to work on this by asking his teaching instructor to observe his teaching and provide feedback and advice after each lesson.

Outside of Kung Fu, he enjoys swimming, listening to music and playing a variety of sports. Swimming is one of his particular strengths, and he enjoys trying different sports as long as they
do not involve violence.

His Kung Fu goal is to continue improving his skills and eventually complete all of the
empty-hand forms faster than any other student.

Liam-Jae Avin
Liam-Jae Avin has been training Wing Chun since he was six years old and has been part of the Leadership Team since the age of eight or nine. Outside of Wing Chun, Liam-Jae also enjoys swimming and athletics.

One of Liam-Jae’s strengths as a young leader is his fun and friendly personality. He enjoys helping the younger students and creating a positive and enjoyable training environment.

Through the Leadership Team, Liam-Jae has had the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, and help others. He is continuing to develop his leadership skills, particularly by speaking with a stronger voice when teaching and becoming a little more confident and firm when leading students.

Liam-Jae enjoys being part of the Leadership Team and looks forward to continuing to grow as a leader while supporting and encouraging others.

Zachary Mak
Zachary began his Wing Chun journey at just five years old in 2000. After many years of dedication and consistent training, he completed the Kidsfit Wing Chun program in late 2023/early 2024 and went on to join our Kidsfit Leader Program in 2024.

Having trained from such a young age, Zachary has developed into a strong and capable young boy through years of hard work, discipline, and commitment to his training. His physical strength is one of his key strengths, while learning to control and use that strength appropriately with his training partners has also been an important part of his development.

Outside of martial arts, Zachary enjoys swimming and is now part of a swimming squad team. He also enjoys playing chess and piano in his spare time.

As a Junior Leader, Zachary continues to develop not only his martial arts skills but also his patience, control, awareness, and leadership abilities. His long-term goal is to become a Kidsfit Instructor and one day inspire and guide the next generation of Kidsfit students.

Kowin Suryadi
Kowin started training in Kug Fu in 2020 when he was only 6 years old. He loves learning new Kung fu moves and continues practicing them with his training partners at PWC as well as his sister. He also enjoys helping others, he now loves teaching younger kids the forms, skills, and self-defence.
Kowin believes that his biggest strength is that he never gives up! Sometimes he gets bored or distracted easily, but kung fu practice helps him working on this weakness and build focus every single day.
When he is not practicing martial arts, he loves playing soccer with his friends. Kowin has a lot of respect for their own kung fu teachers and seniors. His biggest goal is to continue learning, build resilience, and get better each day.

Clarisse Suryadi
Clarisse’s journey with PWC began at just five years old, where she has learned, grown, and developed her skills. In 2024, she became a Kids Fit Leader, and in 2026, she progressed to the Junior Leadership Program, where she began teaching and mentoring students while building her confidence and leadership skills.
Aside from Kung fu, Clarisse has a strong passion for gymnastics, sprinting, running, violin, and choreography. Despite setbacks, including a few injuries and recoveries, she has continued to prove resilience, determination, and commitment to her goals.
Clarisse continues to expand her knowledge by learning which techniques to use in different scenarios and mastering them through practice.
Moving forward, Clarisse hopes to become an even better instructor and create an enjoyable environment where students can build confidence and develop practical skills.

Alex Yan
Alex began training Wing Chun in 2021 at just five years old. He enjoys training because he loves learning new techniques, making new friends, and having fun while learning.
Alex has been part of the Leadership Program since 2025. Through the program, he has learned how to help others, take responsibility, and grow in confidence.
As a young leader, Alex is continuing to build his confidence when speaking and leading in front of larger groups. He also hopes to become even better at helping and teaching younger students.
His Wing Chun goal is to keep improving his skills, work towards higher levels, and continue challenging himself along the way.

Claudia Soo
Claudia began her Practical Wing Chun journey in 2025 at ten years old. She is a very determined person with two big goals: to get fit and to become an instructor. She wants to help the next generation of students fall in love with martial arts, just like she did.
To help reach her goals, Claudia joined the junior leadership program in 2026. This program is helping her overcome her weaknesses, including a fear of public speaking, loud voices, and low confidence. However, Claudia's strengths are even more powerful. She is always helpful to her peers, loves trying new things, and uses her strong determination to perfect her techniques.
When she is not practising kung fu, Claudia stays active by swimming and running. She also loves creative and quiet activities, like drawing and reading books. Claudia is a great helper at home, too. In her spare time, she willingly helps her parents with chores like washing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the bathroom, and vacuuming.
In class, Claudia listens closely to expand her knowledge. While she only uses her martial arts for good, she knows she must continue getting stronger to defend herself. She uses these tough challenges as a focus to learn how to protect herself. Ultimately, Claudia knows she still has many new techniques to learn, but she is ready to overcome her weaknesses and achieve her dream of becoming a Kidsfit instructor.
Kidsfit Leaders

Santos Lim
Santos started Kung Fu when he was five years old. He enjoys Kung Fu because it gives him the opportunity to learn new moves, become stronger and build his confidence. Through his training, Santos has learned the importance of discipline, respect, patience and teamwork. He has also learned to keep trying, even when something is difficult.

One of Santos’s greatest strengths is his determination. He doesn’t give up easily and always listens to his teacher and tries his best during training. His biggest challenge at the moment is that he isn’t quite big enough to train with the adults yet! He looks forward to becoming stronger and improving his skills so that, when he is older, he can join them in training.

Outside of Kung Fu, Santos enjoys playing basketball, swimming and playing the piano. His Kung Fu goals are to learn new skills, improve his fitness and achieve his next level. His personal goal is to become more confident and grow into a good leader — someone who listens to others, helps people and never gives up.

Jackson Leung
Jackson Leung began his Practical Wing Chun journey shortly after his 4th birthday in August, joining the tailored made for members - Baby Dragon Program led by Instructors Jason and Tim.

He is an energetic and sporty young boy with a strong interest in martial arts and soccer. Jackson’s greatest strength is his cheerful and charismatic personality — he has a natural ability to light up any room with his positive energy and enthusiasm.

One of his challenges is maintaining enough nutrition to match his active lifestyle, as his calorie output is often higher than his intake.
He is especially proud of his six-pack and the strength he has developed through his training.

Jackson’s goal is to continue growing in martial arts and one day become a KidsFit Instructor, inspiring and encouraging other children along their Kung fu journeys.

Levi Tang
Levi began his Practical Wing Chun journey around the age of four, joining the Baby Dragon Program alongside his buddy Jackson. He is a warm, kind and friendly young boy whose cheerful nature and generous spirit make him a joy to have in class. Although naturally reserved, Levi is smart, creative and highly approachable — qualities that help him connect well with both instructors and fellow students.

One of Levi’s greatest strengths is his willingness to learn. He listens carefully, stays focused during training, and consistently shows good stamina and a positive attitude. His big smile and keenness to help others contribute to a supportive and encouraging training environment. Like many other kids, Levi is still developing confidence in expressing his thoughts and feelings, as well as courage during moments of confrontation and greater autonomy — areas he is steadily improving through practice.

Levi’s goal is to become skilled in Practical Wing Chun and eventually grow into a KidsFit Leader, where he hopes to help other children learn Kung Fu. He is inspired by the idea of leading with kindness, supporting others, and becoming someone who sets a strong example through discipline and perseverance.

Outside of martial arts, Levi enjoys soccer, basketball, Minecraft, chess and playing the piano — activities that reflect both his energetic side and his creative, thoughtful nature.

Ethan Cheng
Ethan began training in Wing Chun in 2024 at the age of seven. He enjoys training because he loves learning new techniques, understanding how to apply them, making new friends, and having fun while developing his skills.
Through Wing Chun, Ethan has developed an understanding of the importance of discipline, respect and responsibility, and he works to demonstrate these values both during training and when interacting with others.
Ethan joined the Leadership Program in 2026 because he enjoys encouraging others to participate in activities and supporting those around him. He is also keen to build his confidence and develop his skills as a positive and responsible leader.
Ethan’s goal in Wing Chun is to continue improving his skills, learn new techniques, and share what he has learned with others. He is committed to doing his best, improving his fitness, and working towards achieving higher levels in his training.
Outside of Kung Fu, Ethan enjoys swimming, playing soccer and drawing. He looks forward to continuing his Wing Chun journey, developing as a leader, and encouraging others along the way.

Isaac Soo
Isaac has shown incredible dedication since starting Wing Chun in May 2025. Over time, Isaac has consistently applied himself to mastering the fundamentals of this traditional martial art, using every class to build his physical skills and mental focus. Alongside his martial arts training, he swims, which gives him the lung capacity and stamina needed to sustain high-intensity training.
While performing in front of the class and public speaking remain tough hurdles, physical strength is another area he is actively working to develop. However, his defining traits are perseverance, determination, and resilience. Rather than letting these physical and mental anxieties hold him back, he uses the discipline of his training to face his challenges head-on.
His deep hunger for knowledge sets him apart. He actively pushes his own boundaries by successfully persuading junior leaders to teach him advanced techniques far beyond his current level, proving his proactive nature and respect within the school.
Driven by a deep passion for the art, Isaac’s ultimate goals are to become fit and strong, protect himself through self-defence, and eventually become the next Sifu, continuing to teach the next generation with those same life-saving skills.
His fierce drive and refusal to give up show that he has the exact mindset needed to build his physical power, conquer his stage fright, master the craft, and lead others with confidence.
